Watch this short documentary to meet the inspiring women that IWDA is working in partnership with to promote women’s rights on the Thai Burma border.

‘No Women No Peace’ is a short film highlighting the important role of women in the continuing fight for human rights, equality and peaceful democratic change in Burma.

The film was produced for the Women’s League of Burma, an umbrella organisation with members representing 12 different ethnic women’s organisations from Burma. The WLB was established in 1999 with the aims of working for women’s empowerment and development; encouraging women’s participation in decision-making; and enabling women to participate effectively in the movement for peace, democracy and national reconciliation in Burma.

In November 2008 the WLB was awarded the Madeline K Albright Award from the National Democratic Institute for their significant achievements in advancing women’s political participation. This documentary was shown at the award ceremony in Washington DC.

The political empowerment classes highlighted in the film are an activity of the Emerging Leaders Program supported by IWDA and other partners
