During the month of June 2012, The Future Tense in association with Opera Gallery and Londonewcastle presented Wonderful World, the final installment of Gérard Rancinan and Caroline Gaudriault's 'Trilogy of the Moderns'.
Situated somewhere between comedy and tragedy, this vivid photographic tableau and accompanying
texts paints a picture of a confused humanity, groping blindly in the darkness, obsessed with the cult of
celebrity and guided only by an absolute desire for generalised, prescribed happiness.
As part of it's ongoing commitment to engage with the public beyond a traditional gallery experience, The Future Tense and Studio Rancinan offered members of the public a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be immortalised in the final composition in the Wonderful World series, which was shot entirely on-site at the Londonewcastle Project Space in Shoreditch, London, on June 12 2012.
This video, shot by Vincent Tavernier, gives a short fly-on-the-wall overview of the process on the day, including a sneak preview of the final work which pictures the iconic Batman Family portrait but 72 years on. They who so much wanted to save the world, will they succeed?
The work will be exclusively unveiled as part of a Q&A panel session on Thursday June 21, from 6.30pm at the Londonewcastle Project Space, 28 Redchurch Street, London E2 7DP. To book tickets email RSVP@thefuturetense.net with your name.
