A few VERY random shots knocked off with the Nikon adaptor that I just got in Kauai.

Shot using $90 adaptor from ebay in China and my Nikon Zeiss f1.4 50mm. With the adaptor this became more like a 100mm...

Few issues with the camera shooting 25p interfering with the 60hz artificial lights but no way round that here...be fine in UK ;-)

Wish codec was stronger....17mbps bit stingy.

Looks a little softer than the previous footage with the stock lens but still pretty decent for low-light. I can't wait to get one.
  • Philip Bloom plus 7 months ago
yeah it's f1.4 so will be softer than f4 on stock lens...

    Nice Philip.

I just invested in a bunch of FD primes...

    24mm f/2.8, 35mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.8, 100mm f/2.8, 135mm f/2.5

And m4/3 to FD adapter for when I get my GH1. Can't wait to start getting some sharper footage with shallow DOF. My HV30/adapter combo just aint cuttin it.

    Thanks for the footage.

    peace

Ian, using the same kit except for a 20mm+28mm instead of your 24 & 100...
i believe you'll be very pleased on the lumix !

which m4/3->FD adapter did you order ???
  • Ian C plus 7 months ago
I got one on ebay, found here... tinyurl.com/djq66y

I read some user comments here... photo.net/olympus-camera-forum/00Snus .

Really looking forward to this cam.

what iso and shutter speed was this shot at?
  •
  • Scott Karlins plus 7 months ago
Wow, impressive for a non-pro camera. Does anyone know what the price point (US) is going to be?
  • Liza Witz 7 months ago
Its going for $1,300-$1,400 in Japan, official word on US prices is "below $1,500".

    omg you're such a tease !
tasty softness at f1.4... very hamiltonesque.
+ wonderful bokeh on the night traffic as i hoped (how about ISO and any noise issues ?)

...and there shall be much rejoicing to swap lenses at will and cast different looks :D
  • Philip Bloom plus 7 months ago
yeah there is noise past iso 800...i need to get my head around the cam settings though...

I've read that AVCHD is almost twice as bandwidth efficient as HDV. If so, I'm not sure that 17mbps is that stingy.
  • Philip Bloom plus 7 months ago
where did you read that? i can't bring up exposure in grade without it falling apart. I can with hdv at 25mbps.
  • Shahin Izadi 7 months ago
In a EventDV review of the AG-HMC150, 12th paragraph down: eventdv.net/Articles/ReadArticle.aspx?ArticleID=52607

They quote Sony. But who knows whether they are right.

Thanks for this ditty, not too impressed by the performance of the cam this time around :( Should I blame the Nikon adapter?
  • Philip Bloom plus 7 months ago
what do you not like Stephen? The sharpness? The low light? It's not as good as 5dmk2 thats for sure.
  • Stephen Lewis plus 7 months ago
Just the grain and low light performance, but I'll download it and watch it again sans-vimeo-compression! Still a very versatile cam! Very interested about pricing and lens options!

Nice. The shot of the window screen was for demonstrating moire and aliasing I'm guessing. The softness helps I am guessing.

    And Badalamenti is clasisc!

Thanks for posting, the footage looks impressive, especially that shot of the girl at the table with the book. The look appears similar to a 100mm Nikon lens on my SG Pro, except the macro stuff, which I guess makes sense.

What shutter speed and ISO were you using for most of these shots? I'm guessing the aperture was wide open?

Also, a quick tip I picked up somewhere. Adding a very small amount of noise can help reduce compression artifacts. Something that might help with this camera.
  • Philip Bloom plus 7 months ago
good tip thanks...wide open all the time. ISO 400 and 800 shutter was 1/30th

hey philip, I remember at dvxuser, Kholi saying that you can import edited custom color profiles into the GH1.. That might help with the color grading?

Hi Philip, This is a little off topic, however. Have you considered a motion stablizer in conjunction with the kit lens? GH1 body + lens = 30 oz max. I'm thinking a Hague Mini Motion Stablizer would do the trick. Tests on mine with 1KG food bag, a breeze.

I imagine someone will come up with some workaround to the 17mbps codec. As long as you have a faster card, I would think it would be possible.
  • Xavier Bourque plus 7 months ago
I think the "workaround" will be to wait for the GH2. :-) 17mbps is pretty much a limitation of the encoder Panasonic put in the camera.

Thank you for posting this! I think this is the footage that will push me over to the 7D. You're right about the 17Mbps being stingy. Glad to hear it from a GH1 owner.
