Housing Design Awards Winner 2012
Living Projects have completed a series of films celebrating winning schemes of the Housing Design Awards 2012.

This film illustrates the boldness with which Urban Splash took on two derelict '60s blocks to transform a former no-go area to the East of Leeds City Centre. At Saxton, they have introduced a high quality landscaped area leading up to a new high quality entrance to the scheme, carved out lower level parking to put a new central square above, and used the earth to create extensive landscaped gardens for residents to enjoy to the rear. The central square acts as a social space with a green, recycling point, mail collection room and community gym all nearby. Urban Splash have set up an on site community management and events program and were very conscious to include the residents of refurbished 1960s blocks surrounding the scheme in the improvements: All new and existing local residents have access to a new set of allotments within the scheme, complete with colourful sheds full of gardening tools.
