You won't belive it, but my rescued mutt, Cookie, fell in love with it. She watched every interaction like it was her story. The movie itself was heartwarming in its own right, but seeing her get such a thrill following the story, that was just priceless!

:-D This really made my day, lol. I made it based on my dog, Mocha. and tried to get as much of her personality into the animation.

agree that it's got the pixar feel (perhaps the music did that?)--which is a certainly fun. Great movement with your characters, too!

    Really nice
I especially like the design and style of it, and the music just perfectly fits in the whole.
btw. what did you use to create this?
  • Jonathan Holt 2 years ago
Hey, it's made primarily with Maya and Photoshop. The backgrounds are all modeled in Maya and then on a per shot basis I added shading and line drawings. All the textures were painted in Photoshop. Then almost everything is comped in After Effects. Hope that answers your question!

Wow, great animation! I loved that you portrayed the dog pretty realistically ("why eat this when I smell the good stuff" & "I'm just gonna sneak my mouth around this") You surely deserve some great praise, I hope you are getting it!

Wonderful style in this one! feels so much like 2D-animation. I guess it's the painted on shadows and the lack of realtime lightning that does it. Good work!

What is the music!? It's amazing. Very Django Reinhardt. Is the mp3 available somewhere?
  • Jonathan Holt 2 years ago
I actually got the music from a really great stock music site, Killer Tracks. The music is Gypsy Rag by "romane". If you like that, you might also wanna check out both Peter Krebs and the Kung Pao Chickens Cd "Hot Ginger and Dynamite" and also Pinetop Smith.

The latter two were suggested by my friend Juan. Mad props for that ;-)

Funny thing about the music, I had really sucky music all through production, and then changed it literally the night before it was due, simply because I knew I couldn't keep that old awful thing. I was so lucky to run across that track.

Thank you for the recommendations. I think this video is an amazing production. Keep up the awesome work :)

Did you make this entirely by yourself? Or was there assistance?
    Either way...this is amazing
  • Jonathan Holt 2 years ago
Everything in the short was done by me except the music and sound effects. But I definitely didn't do it by myself. My friends at Ringling as well as my faculty advisor and the instructors all had huge parts to play in making the film. I couldn't have done it without them <3

It's really cool that you found gypsy jazz music that fit perfect. I am going to check out the hot ginger cd, and enjoy Gonzalo Bergara , and Patrik Saussois. The story of dogs eating real meat raw is catching on, my dog is in for a treat, cuz i'm going to start feeding her raw meat, as my daughter does , for her new puppy. they love it!Nice cartoon!
