The Eyo Festival takes place any time a celebrated Lagosian dies. The last Eyo was on the 25th April, 2009, to commemorate Tos Benson.
The first recorded Eyo festival was in the early nineteenth century. The origins of the festival are disputed - some say it came from the Benin Kingdom, others say from Ijebu-land.
