This Newport Chippendale Block and Shell Chest of Drawers is a reproduction of a chest made by famous furniture maker John Townsend of Newport, Rhode Island in 1765. This chest is made of solid mahogany with solid poplar as the secondary wood. The molding, feet , drawer dividers, and drawer fronts are all hand shaped and hand carved to match the original profiles. The two convex and center concave shells are also hand carved. Case construction and drawer construction is all hand cut dovetails.
At Doucette and Wolfe Furniture Makers we make museum quality custom furniture in styles ranging from antique reproductions, period inspired furniture and contemporary designs. Visit our website for more information.
