Thanks for the comments! Here's a quick explaination:

Using After Effects, we first time-remapped the footage by stretching it out, perhaps 300% or 400%, turned on frame blending and rendered it out as an initial pass. For some shots, we did a hand-track, stabilized the plate, then ran everything through a plethora of effects, mostly edge-blurs and color-corrects. The majority of the distortion near the edge of frame was created in-camera with a Lensbaby (the original model), this is how the bokeh appears extremely warped, almost oval in shape.
