1. Fedcon 2009 Opening Ceremony Star Trek Animation
6 months ago
This is the opening movie for the FedCon 2009 Science Fiction convention. Since the convention was held one week before the official opening of the new Star Trek movie, I thought it would be a good idea to show off the two most prominent ships of the new movie - the Kelvin and the Enterprise. Since these two ships would have never been able to meet, this is just a "what if" variation. Because, as you know - in SciFi, anything is possible. All elements of the movie, except the music, are done by Tobias Richter of The Light Works. thelightworks.com

Totally awesome! Just as impressive as the movie! Are you guys SURE you didn't do the scenes for the movie?? I am making this my FAV video! Please do another one! I am BEGGING you!
What is amazing is that you managed to capture that "Ouch! the ship just got a big, nasty hole punched through it!" feeling that the full-sized movie did for me when I saw the other Kelvin ship get hit!
You guys (and girls that worked on this) ROCK HEAVY! :)

    Wahnsinn!
    Echt unglaublich!

Super!

This is beautifully done. The only minor quibble I have is that the ship banks like an aircraft when turning. In space, with no air, it's more realistic if it turns on its vertical axis. (I am a physicist and Star Trek fan & starting CGI as a hobby.)

You are of course right, but maybe, given the power of the ship and her futuristic computers controlling thrusters, a ship could roll as it changed trajectory, (even utilising the asteroids gravity and cover) and maybe to present a different shield or armament and 'look' as if it's banking?
    ;o)
Maybe it is purely an aesthetic, to look good to the people that do not realise?
But, I did enjoy Babylon 5's Star FuryFighter meanuevers ;o)
Good luck with the CGI field, it's a total mystery to me :o)
