President Clinton first met former South African President Nelson Mandela while campaigning for president in 1992, and they have since developed a deep, lasting friendship. While they worked together as leaders of their respective countries, they have enjoyed just as much the time on charitable enterprises in the years since they left office. President Clinton and President Mandela share the belief that they have a unique responsibility to use their lasting influence to serve the public interest throughout their postpresidencies.
