On 31 May 2012, as part of the IBA’s 7th Annual Bar Leaders Conference, the IBA International Criminal Court (ICC) Programme hosted a high-level panel discussion on the role of lawyers in establishing international criminal courts and safeguarding their legacy.
The session was chaired by Akbar Khan, Director of the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Division, Commonwealth Secretariat, and expert speakers included: Courtenay Griffiths QC, lead counsel for Charles Taylor; Karim Khan QC, lead counsel for Francis Muthuara (Kenya) Abdallah Banda and Saleh Jerbo (Sudan); Mark Ellis, Executive Director of the IBA and Lorraine Smith Van-Lin, Programme Manager at the IBA ICC Programme.
