A little rough around the edges, after effects keeps crashing from memory overruns (which I don't get) so I just left this as it is for now.

Almost forgot; Music: Soda Popinski - Javelin

Edit: Not sure exactly how it's related, but I fixed my crashing problem by removing the open gl plugin. AE is rock solid now.

maybe this is a dumb question but have you tried changing the memory & cache settings under preferences to fix your ae crashing problem?
  • Andrew Spirk plus 8 months ago
I did yeah :( I really can't figure it out, while I was working on it I was crashing every 2-3 minutes on average. It doesn't crash randomly, it's when I'm doing things that take a lot of calculation. Ram previews suffer as well, running fine for a bit, then suddenly running out of ram after multiple previews. A quit to desktop and restarting AE does the trick for now. I'm going to figure it out sooner or later.

This is excellent, i too have tried motion tracking and it always is sketchy. It looks great tho, i cant see any flaws at all.
  • Andrew Spirk plus 8 months ago
I totally feel you, it's a pain in the ass. Thanks for the kind words :) If you're going to do a planar track, I can't recommend mocha enough, it's packaged with AE and it's the best planar tracker I've seen. I used Mocha for this.

wicked video, just one question though, did you keyframe the squares or did you use soundkeys or something?
  • Andrew Spirk plus 7 months ago
I used sound keys for the squares, it was my first time using it, so it's a little rough.
  • Rob E. 7 months ago
I dont think its rough at all, you did good;)
  • Rob E. 7 months ago
Oh yeah forgot to ask... when AE kept on crashing did you try purging the memory, under edit>purge>purge all?
  • Andrew Spirk plus 7 months ago
Thanks man :) And I didn't try that, hmmmm, I'll have to give that a go, thanks for the tip.

Soundkeys is incredible! I wish that there were more than three selectable regions per effect though.. Did you track using Mocha?
  • Andrew Spirk plus 7 months ago
Edit: I think I forgot to reply to your comment, and instead made a new comment, so... fixing that. :)
    ////////////////
Yep, used Mocha for tracking, I had points drawn on the paper to give mocha some help, and then replaced the paper. Sound Keys would be great if they allowed more than 3 regions per layer, but you can see how taxing it is when you apply even those three regions to something. I used a total of 6 layers of Sound Keys for this, which was one of my major problems with AE crashing.
