An exterminator - just dismissed from the mental hospital - arrives in a small town to wipe out a hilarious CGI bug, and immediately finds himself drawn towards two different women - one a smokin’ hot farmer’s daughter, the other a docile, nurturing widow. The love triangle becomes a cage, and his personality shreds worse and worse the deeper he goes. Maybe Médem’s most ambitious film, Tierra hopscotches Buñuel-esque Biblical allusions, hard relationship drama, metaphysical digressions and chuckle-inducing local color in a cloudy red dust that refuses to settle in one shape or another.
“A fascinating metaphysical excursion into the enigmatic and wondrous terrain of human emotion: attraction and connection, love and jealousy, the spiritual and the corporal.” - Senses of Cinema
