This 5-week workshop at BTK in Berlin explores time-based media by making both "moving images" and "images that are moving" — we breakdown movement qualities and the subsequent evocative communication through a series of experimentations, begining by asking the obvious, "what is stllness"? Following a crash lecture in location scouting, framing, lighting and conceptual strategies, everyone was paired into teams to create a 2-minute video portrait of each other using whatever camera they had on hand. Concentrating on stillness (don't move, no tripod), our perception of time was challenged, from both sides of the camera. The two minutes are sped up to 20 seconds, highlighting the movement in stillness. Summer 2012.
