Test clip of video processing rig for a live performance in collaboration with Joshua Churchill. This video is a quick run-through of a few different possible settings and ways to interact with the system live. The performance involves a small camera and flashlight which is used to capture motion information as well as video. This is fed through a complex feedback system which distorts and composites the video based on the motion analysis. While most of the performance interaction is via the camera, I also use a small MIDI controller to manipulate the parameters of the processing system. During performance, there is much less recognizable imagery, much more abstract, but as this is a technical demo, I felt bringing in some clean images would give a better sense of how it all works. In performance, the audience can see me moving the camera, making faces, moving around, and manipulating the light to create different animations.

5 months ago More than replicating the "datamosh" effect, I'm interested in extending the mechanics and concepts involved to create compelling processes. My "goal" is to make videos that match my formal and aesthetic interests, and I am driven more by that than any desire to ape this compression-glitch style that has gotten so much attention.
