This is a very big announcement... and it was a decision that was more than difficult for me to make. I don't know what else to say... :) except that I'm prepared to work harder than I've ever worked to make it all come together as planned.

Good luck! This is a huge step, but it seems you've thought things through enough to be ready for all the challenges.

    You can do it!
  • mike ambs ☂ plus 6 months ago
Hey Ben!! :) Thank you. It *is* a big step - but I did think about it long and hard.

And it's been paying off already - the days feel longer, more things get checked off my to-do list and I actually feel like I'm catching up!

    Thanks for the support!

I think its the right move. Lord knows what a monkey on your back that would be if you didn't go for it. Trust me, I have a few.

    Good luck, Mike!
  • mike ambs ☂ plus 6 months ago
Blake! :) Thanks for the support - both from you and from the community you do so much to foster. If it weren't for the wonderful people on Vimeo - all of this would much, much harder and lonely <3

And speaking of monkeys - it's never too late ;)

hey man i was surprised to listen to your news, cause i just did the same thing. yeah we fear that it can be an step backwards,
but trust me, having all the time to work on something you have passion on doing, it is worth making the step back, so you can make a big jump foward.

    luck, fabio

Hey Fabio :) You did too? Thank you for leaving this comment - it's great to hear from someone else who's taken the leap and had it pay off for them.

    1) Because it's your baby
    2) So you have no regrets
    3) So that you can move on

Those are 3 heavy weight reasons I can think of for you to finish Pedal. You've lived with it for so long now. Go finish Pedal the only way you know how. You're a truly creative soul, & I admire that. The decision you've made is the type that every true artist must make from time to time. So go home focused, knowing that @ the end of all this, you'll have fulfilled one of your life goals & successfully closed a major chapter in your life. & you'll have a kick ass film. You got this Mike! YOU GOT IT!

Terren! I miss you man - reading this comment reminded me how awesome you are. Not that I really forgot, but still. I hope you're do big things in LA :)

I need to print your comment out and tape it the wall - I seriously got a huge smile on my face reading it.

And I'm incredibly flattered you think I'm a creative person <3

I mean it when I say we need to have a mini-reunion when I get back to LA :) go hang out of speeding cars or something fun like that. Take care of things while I'm away!

    Good luck man!!

Seriously though, I hope it all comes together for you, I know you have put a lot of time and life into pedal. Oh and if you even end up down in Ohio hit me up.
  • mike ambs ☂ plus 6 months ago
Thanks Chris! I know it will work out - there's no other option for me :) And I'll keep you in mind if I'm planning any trips to Ohio!

Wow! We are for you Mike!

At least you picked a good time to come back to Michigan. It could be the middle of winter...that would SUCK!
  • mike ambs ☂ plus 6 months ago
Thanks Ashley! Everyone's support has really blown me away - it's helped tremendously.

Ha, that's true - I did wait for the snow to go away ;)

Sounds like the best choice for the time Mike. LA isn't going anywhere and nothing is really going to be left behind that can't be picked back up. Your quote from the first episode is coming back full circle.

"Because in the end it has almost nothing to do with the bike and everything to do with setting
out to accomplish something that is intimidating, that is unknown to you, something you know you
have a good chance of failing at but doing it anyways and slowly but surely proving yourself wrong."

Good luck with the the rough cut and especially your new junker getting you to Michigan.
  • mike ambs ☂ plus 6 months ago
Hey Jeshua :) I think you're right - LA will be right where I left it. And I've worked really hard to make sure I have roots to come back to in LA... friends, work, etc.

Thank you for posting that quote... it's so crazy to read that... I had no idea when I wrote it that it would apply to so many different areas of production.

All your support means the world to me!

Hey Mike it may seem like you're taking a huge step back leaving LA to go back home but if you think about it, it's really a huge step forward. Like any piece of work sometimes we have to break away from the spotlight of it all and go into a cubbyhole and place everything in order and this seems like the right time to do it for you. If you don't have peace and ease with yourself after putting your heart into this project then you begin to wonder what was it all for. Well now you have decided to go to a place where everything can be put in prospective...home.

I know you can do it. You've already shown us what you're capable of and this to me seems just like the next step instead of something out of step. I believe in you and I am sure many of your friends and of course your family believe in you too.

I believe being out of LA is going to do you a world of good and you never know a light bulb of a new idea might spark to give you even more insight on what to do with Project Pedal and the infinite possibilities of what you can and will do with it.

I believe in you for sure :)
  • mike ambs ☂ plus 6 months ago
Hey Tiff! :) Exactly what I was thinking - in LA I was getting lots of work offers that were too much fun to turn away... and as much as I *love* doing what I do for a living in LA... it was slowing me down on Pedal. And after a few months... after a year... that really start to eat away at me. Constantly. It became too overwhelming to not have as much time as I needed for the film.

And I know that other people can do it all - they can juggle the job, the film, their personal life... and they can do so with ease. But I needed to simplify things.

It really means a lot to me to read those words "I believe in you" - you have no idea how helpful and encouraging they can be during all this.

    *hug*

late to the party on this vid, but obviously we completely believe in you as an artist and as a person. michigan is an unexpected move, but i can understand the motivation to alleviate some responsibility. in the end, you might find yourself in new york, austin, or maybe back to LA, i'm not sure. i can see you being very happy in austin, too. but we sure do miss you around these parts. luckily we have online video to not miss a beat. :)
  • mike ambs ☂ plus 6 months ago
Hey Steve :) Thank you - it's always meant a great deal to me that you and Zadi are so supportive and that you both seem to genuinely believe in me. Since it was you two who really got the ball rolling with the project when encouraging me to release videos / episodes.

Everything changed after that. And forced me to grow as a filmmaker much faster than I ever thought I could.

I *could* be happy in NY (during the summers), maybe Austin I suppose. But I feel at home in LA... I guess I've never felt at home in MI the last 10 years of my life. I feel like I don't *belong* here...

I will see you two again soon! In the meantime I will be cheering Smashface on from Ypsi.
