Spectacular scenes from the Ilulissat ice fjord and the Greenland ice cap. These images were filmed during the 2006 Climate Change College, during which 6 students from the UK and the Netherlands ventured into the arctic wilderness to be trained as climate change ambassadors. Based on the experiences and knowledge gathered on several locations in Greenland, they launched various initiatives raising public awareness around the topic of climate change.

In the future we will feature more stories from the Climate Change College. You can read more about the project on climatechangecollege.org.

Special thanks to Marc Cornelissen for making this footage available.

it's funny how because of the stunning colour grading hardly anything is actually white :)
  • icescapes plus 4 months ago
Actually, most of the "grading" here is done by nature. I hardly had to do apply any color correction myself to make it look the way it does.
  • Andraz Jeric 4 months ago
i was actually referring to "natural grading" of course, which makes it even more fascinating

great footage of running with the wolves ( or dogs that look like wolves ) that was amazing !! also the ice breaking sounds amazing !! great work !!
  • icescapes plus 4 months ago
Thank you very much! The sled dogs are indeed closer relatives to wolves than domesticated dogs. Not good for petting, but they look great on camera :-)

I don't need to expound on the beauty of the scenery you shot, because it speaks for itself. I will however say that on a hot, steamy summer day, this is the kind of video that cools me down good!
  • icescapes plus 4 months ago
Thanks MHN, and stay tuned for more refreshing images in the next couple of months :-)

I think what makes it so incredible is the down to earth camera angles to the subjects level. Even the chiseled worn timber detail of the boat as it makes it's way through the ice. At 1:23, work sleds waiting their turn. And like the Siberian Husky I shared life with, they have a higher level click, even when they socialize and talk with us. This camera with your help really endured a special tour in a tough environment.
    Cheers to all the crew.

Thanks very much, a lot of people seem to respond to the dogs. Maybe the dog eye level view makes is easier to connect with them and see the world through their eyes as it were, instead of seeing it from an outsiders perspective.

Thank you for sharing this footage. I love you using eye level of the dog. This caught my attention and interest, intriguing perhaps. Dogs never fail to facinate me anyway.

thought the footage beautiful but the film edited too slow ...
  • icescapes plus 3 months ago
Thanks, I was thinking it might be a bit slow too, especially the middle bit. Then again, lots of people seem to like it that way... a matter of taste I guess.
  • Philscbx 3 months ago
You two made me look, but I can't find one wasted frame. We'd just have less to view if cut more. The music fits so nicely as well with a unique beat.

By the way, I'm working on a new video with more footage from Greenland which will be released very soon, so stay tuned...
