The Lab just put the finishing touches on an Indie teen comedy feature film shot on RED ONE (with the EPIC sensor) and finished in SpeedGrade. This is the first feature to use our SpeedLooks CLEAN SL-3500 optimized for the RED. For our SL-3500 to work perfectly when applied to the footage, we switched the RED footage metadata to SpeedLog by applying the RED camera patch. We applied SL-3500 without doing any shot adjustments and the Director had a big smile on his face.
Here's what Director Jason Wan Lim had to say:
"I knew there were advantages to shooting a feature film on the RED, but I was never sure just how the last leap from our pretty in-camera picture to a cinema-worthy image would go. I'd seen a lot of footage from RED projects on both sides of the spectrum, from indie shorts, where I wasn't sure what the perceived benefit of attaining the huge latitude was, to full-scale Hollywood productions like The Social Network, that simply look as though they've been shot on 35mm film. Not wanting to appear like the typical RED footage shorts and not having the money to afford whatever magic the big studios are buying, I was worried about how my movie would look - my low budget, feature-length independent movie.
