NEWS Limited has launched its “augmented reality” application.
Scanning a printed newspaper with the “News Alive” app leads to additional audio and visual content.
The app is free to download in the iTunes store for both iPhone and iPad.
News Alive capability was first included in the 27th May's Sunday’s The Sunday Mail, the Sunday Herald Sun, The Sunday Telegraph and The Sunday Times.
The app “delivers a richer and deeper experience for readers,” - News Limited.
Scanning an “explore here” icon led to a video of the editor discussing the news, a 3D interactive display of the property of the week, 360 degree views of photos, and advertising videos.
Feedback includes “adds a new dimension to the print media”, and “for the first release it holds great potential”.
News Alive was launched in conjunction with CommBank’s new brand campaign.
“This campaign is a prime example of the News Australia Sales philosophy of working hand-in-hand with clients to create a true partnership,” said News Limited’s director of sales Tony Kendall.
“News Alive represents so much more than just adding a video element to our print products; it’s an example of leveraging the true multi-media capacity of News Limited to create an exciting and engaging commercial execution.”
