In the last decade the number of Border Patrol agents on Washington state's Olympic Peninsula has increased sevenfold, from 45 agents to 331. The increased presence has created an atmosphere of fear, and nearly two-thirds of the Latino families have been deported or moved away. Once a stable community of working class families, the deepening distrust has made children afraid of losing their parents, and parents afraid of seeing their families broken apart. Many worry about the long term impact on the children and on their community.
