This is the third official timelapse reel that I've done. The beginning day timelapse shots are all shot with the Red One using Nikon and Ziess ZF glass. All the night shots were shot with the Canon 40D. I also have another video in the works, which will be longer than this one by a little bit. But I need to shoot some more footage before that's ready to happen.

Absolutely stunning work! Always good to see 599 stuff. What music was used?
  • 599 Productions 7 months ago
The music was from the "Knowing" soundtrack. Glad you enjoy the footage.

Yes, stunning stuff. I enjoyed that a lot. Looking forward to the next...

The next timelapse video I'm going to do, I believe is going to make all the other ones I've done in the past pale in comparison.

enjoyed this stuff very much. How have you found the RED when it comes to doing night time lapse. Is the dynamic range and ASA too low to really get what a still camera can accomplish?
  • 599 Productions 7 months ago
I really like using the Red camera for day timelapse shots. But at night I usually need a longer shutter than what the Red can do currently.

Absolutly beautifull and astonishing ! I was wondering why we can see some dust on the shot between 01:15 and 01:23 ? Was it dust on lenses or what ? Thanks for all this beauty shots.
  • 599 Productions 7 months ago
Those were birds flying around. If I had the inclination I would remove them all in post. But it only bothers me a little bit.

    Thanks again ;-)

I loved the planes coming in! That was fantastic. The music was perfect for it!

I want to say I have around 5,000+ shutter cycles on my 40D. My 20D has around 10,000-15,000+ cycles. But I don't use it for timelapse now-a-days.

thats beautiful!!! i wish i could do that, but im only 14.
  • 599 Productions 7 months ago
Why wouldn't you be able to do this. If you don't have a camera or a computer then I can see why. But if you do then there's no reason why you can't. When I was 14 I didn't have this technology but I wish I did.

theres not much around here to film, unlike a beautiful city like this. i gotta get creative if i want to pull off something here. my camera isnt high def either. i hope to get one soon though. i love videography
  • 599 Productions 7 months ago
If your not in the city you can still get timelapse of nature, which can also look amazing.

Dumb question but are you shooting some of it out of a glass box? Or a car? I just see some reflections at 1:50+.

Amazing work as always, your first reel made me get into timelapses :) Next weekend going to take a rental 5d through the ringer!
  • 599 Productions 7 months ago
The reflection you see is from the lens. I'm going to take it out of future timelapse clips as it is a little distracting.
  • Ear Photo Image 7 months ago
Hmm really, just inner reflections? Would that happen with a prime? Sorry still need to learn a few things :)
  • 599 Productions 7 months ago
It happens a little with my 15mm f~2.8 Sigma but not as much as that zoom.

Great looking shots. I never really sat down and realized how many planes were actually in the sky... Makes you sit and think. Thanks for showing

Really nice footage. This reel reminds of the film Koyaanisqatsi, you should do Koyaanisqatsi 2.
The airport part was my favorite.
I can't wait to see your other video.
  • 599 Productions 7 months ago
A lot of people keep telling me this. I didn't see Koyaanisqatsi until a year or so after I started doing timelapse.

The best part is with the planes.

The LAX shots are some of my favorite as well. So I figured this time around I would get some more shots of the plans landing.

Beautiful Work, Awesome vantage points of Northern California and Los Angeles. Airport and downtown Los Angeles were very cool

I don't have the words to express how much I enjoyed this. "Breath-taking" just isn't enough... Anyway, the bit at the airport... planes don't normally come that close to each other right? was there some kind of compiling technique added to that part to make the planes seem closer to each other than they really are, or is that really how it happened?
  • 599 Productions 7 months ago
Thanks for the kind words man. The shots with the airplanes is 100% effects free. So yes, they are that close to each other. LAX is a very busy airport.
  • Kalvin Camp 7 months ago
WOW!! that scene looked so magical... like a bunch of fire flies floating around...

Wonderful stuff. I'm not familiar with the 40D. Does it have a mode that automatically takes a shot every X seconds? Were you saving to an in camera card or hard drive?
  • 599 Productions 7 months ago
No, there's a wired remote controller that I use with the camera to fire off frames.

Like fireflies in the night!! The airplane sequence was stunning, melodic even!!

For your day to night sequences, do you use a filter in post to fix the varying frames i.e. gbdeFlicker?

    thx.
  • 599 Productions 3 months ago
I don't use any filters in post. What you see is what the camera captured.

Your video is really effing good. Props... What time does the nikon footage start and where does the red footage end?
  • 599 Productions 1 month ago
All the daytime timelapse in the beginning of the video was shot with the RED One using Nikon lenses and Zeiss ZF lenses. The rest of it was shot with the Canon 40D using Canon lenses.

I'm speechless... especially from 00:30 to 00:46. Did you saturate/colour correct the footage or is it just raw as the camera saw it? I'm still learning the ropes, hence the question.

    Truly brilliant!

all the planes landing really fast starting at 02:05 is a bit disturbing and beautiful.

So beautiful, so unreal! Great Respect for music! Landing airplanes looks as UFO!
  • 599 Productions 3 days ago
I think in some of my new stuff I got a couple satellites in the shots. If there aren't then they are UFOs. Because they are moving faster than the stars and slower than the planes. The 5D2 does a very good job picking up very faint objects.
