This is my second 5x5 film (5 subjects each for 5 seconds). All of these shots are standard definition (SD) and were captured on a Sony DVD201E during 2007 as part of other film projects.

All five of these shots were filmed at Noosa, which is on the aptly-named Sunshine Coast located in South East Queensland, about 2 hours drive north of Brisbane.

The music is an excerpt from the soundtrack for Godfrey Reggio's film Koyanisqqatsi and was composed by Philip Glass.

"A Japanese poem composed of three unrhymed lines of five, seven, and five syllables. Haiku often reflect on some aspect of nature."

    A very thoughtful comment :-)

Ever since these 5x5s started up I have thought of them as the visual form of haiku. Simple, yet profound if done well. Yours was exquisite!

Beautiful, Arnold! How did you put in the music background?

    G'day Bill.

Thanks for taking the time to watch and for your comment. I use Adobe Premiere Elements to edit the video footage and to manipulate the soundtrack.

    Happy New Year!

G'day back at ya! Thanx for the info Arnold! Any suggestions on playing with video on a digital camera before I decide to upgrade if this becomes a hobby?
    HAPPY NEW YEAR to all!

i really like the last shot, were you up on a cliff?
  • Arnold Kopff 8 months ago
    Hi Mitch -- thanks.

Yes, the last shot was taken from a headland with a (pretty much) vertical cliff. This made it possible to get a shot that was relatively close to the water and that also had a wonderful point of view. BTW: that portion of the film is slowed down in order to accentuate the ponderous rolling motion of the waves. The other shots were taken just "around the corner", in Laguna Bay at Noosa. The bay is sheltered from the ocean swell by the headland. The shape of the bay and the situation of the headland makes it possible to capture the setting sun across the water - something that is hard to do in Australia when you live on the east coast and don't have the time to drive all the way across the continent to Perth ;-)

Thank you for taking the time to watch.

Hi Arnold. Just wanted to say that I've got to agree with Mitch, that last shot is really atmospheric and kind of spookily ominous too! Great video.

G'day Matt. I'm sorry that I've taken so long to respond, but thank you very much for taking time out to watch it and for posting your kind comments. See you later!
