Arizona State student-athlete Brandon Magee has agreed to a contract with the Boston Red Sox, the organization announced Thursday. Magee will continue to play for the Sun Devil football team during the 2012 season and will have the opportunity to continue his football career in the National Football League following that.

Magee, who is entering his fifth season with the football team and was a three-
year letterman with the baseball team, was selected in the 23rd round (721st overall) by the Red Sox in the 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

He won consecutive Pac-10 titles and twice went to the College World Series as a member of the ASU baseball team for three seasons from 2009-11. He appeared in more than 25 games and made three starts as an outfielder, and recorded his first career hit on March 6, 2010, against UC Riverside at Surprise Stadium.

Magee, who sat out the entire 2011 season due to an Achilles tear suffered in preseason camp, has embraced the role of senior leader for the Sun Devil football team over the past year.
