10k run and 5k walk in Rome’s historic centre
The 2012 edition of the HUNGER RUN – set for 21 October – will be accepting registrations soon. Mark your calendar and plan to be part of this one-of-a-kind event.
Streets in Rome’s historic centre will be closed to traffic on the morning of Sunday 21 October. Runners will gather at the Caracalla Stadium for both the 10k competitive race and the 5k non-competitive run or walk.
The starting shot for the 10k race and for the 5k non-competitive will be fired at 10.00 h. For more information, for maps of the race courses, and to register, visit the HUNGER RUN official website, available soon at: HungerRun.it. Advance registration is recommended.
The HUNGER RUN is organized by Gruppo Sportivo Bancari Romani – technical organizers of the well known Roma-Ostia half marathon, and of the Rome edition of the Race for the Cure – on behalf of FAO, IFAD, WFP, Bioversity International and FAO Staff Coop. The HUNGER RUN is made possible by the kind collaboration of Regione Lazio and Roma Capitale and the sponsorship of the United Nations Federal Credit Union (UNFCU).
The HUNGER RUN (formerly known as the “Run for Food”) has three objectives:
1. increase awareness of the fact that hundreds of millions of people around the world live in hunger
2. raise funds to help hunger-affected communities in developing countries to more food-secure lives
3. build links between the people of Rome and the United Nations food agencies headquartered here.
Proceeds from registration fees will be used to help communities in the Horn of Africa affected by drought and poor harvests. Watch these pages for more information about the project in the Horn of Africa supported by the HUNGER RUN.
