Lt. Gen. Paul E. Funk, US Army (Ret), is shown on September 29, 2002, at a ceremony in Middletown, CT, before an audience that included 3rd Armored Division WWII veterans, other military veterans, and local dignitaries. Gen. Funk, who commanded the 3rd Armored Division in the Gulf War of 1990-91, was the keynote speaker in an event dedicating the birthplace of Maj. Gen. Maurice Rose, who led the legendary 3rd Armored "Spearhead" Division in WWII. Rose, who was born in Middletown in 1899, was killed in action near the war's end in 1945 and is buried in Margraten, The Netherlands. The actual building of his birth on Main St. was not discovered until May, 2002. Our apologies for the subpar visual & audio quality of the video, which are due to questionable original camera work and street sounds.
