Project Horus is a high altitude balloon project based in Adelaide, South Australia. The project recently flew Horus 25 from our Mt Barker launch site. This is the story of the day's activities.
The aim of this flight was to test a new telemetry controller. After several recent balloon flights landing off shore resulting in the loss of the payloads, the group has finally completed development of a system to regain control of when a flight commences its decent phase (rather than waiting for the balloon to burst).
Horus 25 was a full high altitude systems test of the new telemetry controller. The results were perfect, with the decent beginning exactly when the group wanted it to.
This system was also an important development for future flights where more expensive payloads are planned to be flown.
