This is the first project I've made about five years ago. It is about a trip of a man trapped in a coma. He is supposed to wake up in a hospital at the end but the footage was never taken.

    the lighting is like perfect.
  • Magic Lantern plus 7 months ago
Thanks, you wouldn't believe if I tell you what we used for lighting!
  • Kubu79 7 months ago
I would believe it. In fact I didn't like the lighting and may I ask you why this abundant use of blue saturation?Script is beautiful and acting is very technical. My best compliments! :)
  • Magic Lantern plus 7 months ago
Thanks! The blue was chosen for two purposes, one is because It was shot in the morning and I wanted it to look like it was at night and the other is that it is a surreal world, another dimension deep in the human mind. The project is old and I agree with you about the lighting in some shots, I would have made a lot of things different if it was today.

I think the music became a little invasive at times, but it was well shot, and the concept interesting.

Sorry, but not my cup of tea at all. While there were some positive aspects like the lighting, framing, etc., I found I was clicking ahead to speed it up..

I couldn't wait for it to end.

C'est diablement bien filmé. L'atmosphère d'oppression est très réussie. Bravo même si on aurait aimé que ce soit quand même un poil plus long.
  • Magic Lantern plus 7 months ago
Thank you Wesker but could you post it in English/Portuguese/Spanish or Japanese? I can't understand French and would love to understand your comment.
  • Jim Taylor plus 7 months ago
    Google translate:

It is devilishly well filmed. The atmosphere of oppression is very successful. Bravo although we would have liked it is still a bit longer.

What a great way to astroturf your own short. Congrats!
  •
  • wow you should totally never add that ending and dont tell people what it really is! the unknown is so much more creepier!
  • Magic Lantern plus 7 months ago
I know. But the thing is that I've posted it a long time ago in YouTube and didn't tell what was it about and got some negative comments about that an decided to do different here. Thanks, I agree with you.
  • lol oh so i see, you're succumbing to public opinion! jk never back down your creative personality! btw did you watch Clarence? a short me and my crew made, it has a lot of the same elements that your had and we made it WAY after you made yours.

Actually I just continued reading comments and saw that you edit in Adobe Premiere. Do you know how Final Cut Pro compares with that? Much appreciated.

Also, fantastic job. The shots are beautiful.

really great editing and cinematography. I thought that the music might have been just a little too intense at times, but it was wonderful otherwise. I definitely think you should go back and and get the end shots to finish this up.

  • Josh Weyrick 7 months ago
The lighting is excellent but i di agree that the music is invasive! But for sure finish it!

  • Magic Lantern plus 7 months ago
Wow! I'm shocked! So many comments in such a short time!
Thank you so much, and sorry to be late to reply you.
About the project, me and my friend Coady decided to make this short after studying cinematography for a while. We got access to an old abandoned corporate dormitory near our house and decided to shoot there. The place was amazing but we had only a few days to shoot there and it had to be in that week. We didn't have the screenplay finished at the moment and had to hurry to get the shots. Well end result is, we didn't get everything we wanted and the story was broken. Our audio hard drive broke and we lost all the boom audio!
So just for the sake of not loosing the project, I put everything we got together and made this. So I understand if people get frustrated when watching this, you can't imagine my own frustration!
But if I get compliments about anything besides the story, I'm more then happy!
Shot with a Sony FX1 with an M2 adapter and Nikon lenses. Lighting 4x500w halogen and a 1k par light.
Cut in Adobe Premiere, effects and compositing in Adobe After effects.

Very well done cinematography and lighting (plus post). I understand your frustration and the time restriction. Try to finish your short film, I'm sure you can find another location and rewrite the ending to the new location. Then you also can shorten the scene where his head sticks to the wall for (like a minute?) a loooong time, that's the only thing I didn't like. : )
  • Magic Lantern plus 7 months ago
I'm thinking about reshooting it some day. About the last shot, I put it that way more as a homage to my friend Ian that gave his best on the acting for the short that never got to anywhere so I think he deserved that credit. Don't know if it was the right decision but it makes my conscious feel better (ha ha)
    Thank you so much!

Youps sorry for using french. I wasn't sure of my english level. So I wanted to compliment you for your short film which I really have apprecated. We can easily feel the opression atmosphere. I also enjoy the shots you have chosen for your film. The only thing I regret is that it was maybe too short. Anyway I expect your next production with impatience.

Wonderfully photographed! You should definitely finish off the film with the ending you wanted. The ending at the moment feels like the film simply trailing off needlessly, it definitely needs a proper ending as the rest of the film feels like it's building up to something.

Thank you James! All of you are almost convincing me to redo it the right way.

Very well done. Great lighting, some nice acting, good job with keeping a good styleflow. Music was good, too. But the main thing that bugged me was that end shot that was held too long, and the fact that the film is not finished. But as a whole, excellent work and I aspire to create a short film with slight resemblance to this film, in that the main character is imagining an elaborate reality and at the end we see that he is mentally ill and strapped to a wheelchair. Anyhow, cheers! God bless -b

Really really intense, I enjoyed a lot diving into the atmosphere you created. Very convincing, very rich, really great short film. It's a pity you never finished it, but on the other hand, I think leaving it open makes it even more dramatic. The coma-context gets a little lost, but it is way more creepy

Ok, I am new to this site and maybe I just don't get it. But from my novice point of view, this video blew balls. What was the point? It was called HIT and it was a Huge miss. Is this like the paper bag from American Beauty or something? Cause I don't get that either.
  • Magic Lantern plus 6 months ago
Thank you! If you read my description, I wrote that I couldn't finish the production of the movie so it makes sense that you thought it had no sense. In the original script he gets hit by a car and ends waking up from a coma, so the actual "hit" is when he wakes up and realize the hell that is to be trapped in between life and death, locked up in the hallways of the subconscious where there is no way in or out.
Hope it make sense now. You can see by the other guys comments that they are complimenting specifically the production not really the plot.
Thanks again for watching and taking the time to post your opinion!
