Staff Sgt. Paul Worley, of Eden, N.C. was awarded the Silver Star on Camp Pendleton Tuesday for his 2010 heroics in Afghanistan. July 17, 2012
During a Taliban ambush, Worley was shot, but tended his own wounds. He directed a medic to tend help a more severely injured Marine. He continued exposing himself to enemy fire, despite his wounds.
The staff sergeant later refused to be evacuated until it was safe for MEDEVAC helicopters to land.
