The Togni’s family is the oldest family of Circus in Italy and one of the oldest dynasties in Europe still active today. Livio, son of the legendary Darix, has leaded the Togni Circus since 1976, when his father died for a leukaemia. Together with his two brothers Davio, the lion tamer, and Corrado, the clown, they keep alive the magic of the art inherited from their family. Under the attentive eyes of their mother Fiorenza, Livio has to face every day the problems that such a big family and a business involves. Young generations are those they have to worry about. Ryan, Daniel and Amanda, Fiorenza’s nephews, are trapped into their problems of growing, trying to affirm their own identity in a protective and strict family. Could they finally be able to meet as a family and be themselves without the fear of disappointing? And who among them will have the personality to come out and lead one day the Circus? What’s going to happen to the legacy of the Togni’s? Is it going to carry on its seemingly never-ending traditions or it’s going to radically change?
Circle is an intimate portrait of this unique Circus family, enriched by sixty years of extraordinary footage entirely filmed by the family itself. These home movies, filmed on Super8, VHS, Hi8 and MiniDv, will intercut the present narration creating flashbacks with historical and evocative value.
