This is my very first draft of my very first demo reel.

I currently work at a digital photo lab and have been the main color corrector for the past 5 years. My goal is to take what I've learned there, and apply it to film, video, and other commercial projects.

Comments and critiques are encouraged. Please let me know what works, what doesn't, what should be left alone, or what could be improved upon. Thanks

Wow. That looks really highly professional for me.

The office-scene somehow does not work. Not because of the color work, more the shot itself does not fit the quality of the other scenes & photos, imho.
And maybe you could think about shorten the "Shooting" scene a little bit. But I'm not sure.

... did I mention that I like your typography? ;)
  • Yes I agree. My friend told me last night that he read this comment and agreed with it. And now that I look back on it I feel like it would be a wise thing to take it out.

Shortening the gun shoot out is also another thing I was curious about. Im glad you spoke up about it. Thanks a lot for taking a look and giving an honest opinion :) Cheers

Nice demo reel, very impressive before and afters. I think you could add a few more examples and maybe shorten some of them as mentioned above.

Hi Michael. I agree about ditching the office scene and shortening the shootout. But at the end of the day: very nicely executed.

In the u.k colour correction of film footage is called grading, its used to bring scenes closer to an overall contrast and colour dynamic, as well as being used to change overall colour space and tone. less is more in this game good work fella..........lets see some b\w conversions as well as high and low contrast imagery
  • Thanks for the input, mate. I was actually wondering if there was a difference between color timing, grading, and correcting. Have I labeled this reel incorrectly? I'll make sure to get some B&W stuff on here for sure. Thanks

    I always thought that

Colour correcting= true to life colours e.g. documentary, dramas etc

Colour grading= A film look and a certain style to the footage err like bleach bypass look etc.

That bridge looks terribly familiar. Then I noticed your email is from Rochester.

I used to live in Sterling Heights for 8 years. Was that bridge from a park there?

    Also- wonderful job!
I've just started getting into really working with color treatments. A lot of what you have here is very inspiring :)
