21. HD Cloud Timelapse at Twilight Sunset after Thunder Storm

Just a little test I did with the Canon HV20 at 7x for both scenes. Wanted to capture the low level clouds after a thunderstorm. The clouds were already going pretty fast so I kept this at 7x. Done in Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 by just speeding the timeline up 700%.

Nice! Have you tried to add a little contrast to the red channel? That could possibly give it a even more intense look.

didn't try to add anything to this. just a pure timelapse test. i will definitely play with the reds. thanks,

Inspiring footage! I have GOT to try working time-lapse cloud footage into a music video, but with people in the scene. Seems challenging. M. Ward did this very effectively (along with a TON of other cool effects) on his video for "Requiem" at youtube.com/watch?v=AIMVxQy0mCU.

Anyway, I also enjoyed some of your focus techniques on Steel Blue.

Hey thanks for checking out my videos!

Beautiful! Time-lapse is now officially on my "amateur learning" video todo list. Thanks for sharing.

thanks! it's actually really easy. just speeding up the timeline in your editor and just keeping the camera on a tripod.

Nice Mark, the speed of the clouds suits the music very well, fairly calm but playful, and nice colours too.
By the way... did you have any luck with the humming sound on the HV20? And also, did you do any comparison shots with HC3 yet? Looking forward to seeing some. Thanks.
  • Mark Jensen 6 months ago
    thanks javed.
no luck on the comparison yet. but i will hopefully have something shortly i promise :) humming sound seems normal i guess. i still had some hum on my hc3 as well.

looks like this review heard humming noise as well and used an external mic to get rid of it

Thanks for that Mark... it seems most (if not all) consumer range cameras have mics that pic-up internal sound from the camera. I expected better when paying over £800 for the camera. I've been looking into buying one of those RHODE mics for quite a while now, what I don't understand is that the price range of 'directional-mics' range from £20 to over £500... seriously, how much (audible) difference in quality can those products be?

the onboard mic on the hv20 isn't that bad honestly. i had the same hum on my hc3 and i think it's really hard to get rid of the tape/engine hum when the mic is right there on the casing itself. so any mic that's not part of the casing would help and away from the tape. rhode mics are always great. had no problems with them for vocals.
