The inaugural SOUTH exhibition, award and documentary was launched at Design Indaba Expo this year in celebration of the unique ethos of South African creativity that can be applied to real world problems. The SOUTH exhibition, established by the Creative Alliance and sponsored by the SABC, included 22 legendary creative icons as well as 33 finalists selected from the 163 entries from across all industries in the country. The SOUTH award winner, Doung Anwar Jahangeer, fetched R100 000 for his Spaza De-Move-On (a fold-up shop on wheels), with the R50 000 second place going to the Cell C Eco Diary, and the Cape Argus “Aids Stats” campaign coming in third to win R25 000.
