Had a Chance to Shadow Philip Bloom from philipbloom.co.uk this past weekend at Joshua Tree park in california. I Had been really looking forward to watch a pro at work while shooting a real project. He has been hired by Panasonic to make them a nice little short to show at the European press launch of the GH1 on May 21st at Panasonic HQ.

Illya Friedman of hotrodcameras.com/ joined up with Phil with his brand new prototype PL mount adaptor for cinemas lenses so you can actually put them onto this little camera! Also along for the ride were Jake Carpenter from jakecarp.com and David Aldrich who makes the $100 follow focus found at designbydave.net/

Had loads of fun with the guys mostly talking good old geek tech talk and making fun of each other.
Philip blogs about it in his site here: philipbloom.co.uk/2009/05/12/panasonic-lumix-gh1-in-joshua-tree-and-pl-lenses/#more-2953

Shot all of this using my new HF-s10 and the New JAG35st static 35mm adapter that sells for $99 at JAG35.com

Just one of the side effects of spending time in the USA, is that you start looking like us, 3 weeks of burgers, burritos, and tacos will do it.

Yeah if I've learned anything from the Master Bloom, its that I need to give in and just buy a decent tripod, no matter how much I'll hate carrying it around.

I was actually referring to what Bloom said above. haha
He looks like a weeble wobble.

dig your style with the hfs10 and the jag! did you shoot in 1080 and downsize to 720? or shoot straight to 720?
  • jehu Garcia plus 8 months ago
shot 1080 downsized to 720 for uploading smaller files, I have crappy DSL and slow upload speeds.

I've added this to the panasonic GH1 group-- some of the first footage of the camera actually being used (and professionally)... vimeo.com/groups/gh1

Thanks! Love the look of the two cameras at the beginning, the little follow focus rig is pretty sexy.

Thanks for posting the footage with the new ST. I really like the grittiness. These shots are quite a bit darker than your JAG35SP footage from Joshua Tree. Is that because of a difference in the ST and SP, with regard to range of apertures that work well?
  • jehu Garcia plus 8 months ago
Yeah the glass screen found on the SP is brighter
  • Montgomery Kosma 8 months ago
In terms of light levels, is the Jag35Pro same as the SP or somewhere between that and the ST?

How are you connecting the JAG st 43mm to the HF 58mm?
  • jehu Garcia plus 8 months ago
I glued a 58-62mm step up ring to the 43-58mm ring that all JAG35 adapters use. gallery.me.com/jehug/100048/IMG_0101/web.jpg?ver=12423391510001

Have you tried this combo with direct capture to a high bandwidth device such as Flash XDR, HPG-20, or Cineform through a Blackmagic or AJA card?

You've both, Philip and you, blown my mind away with such beautiful pictures ! Thanks a lot.
By the way, Jehu, do you make Jag35 for Sony SR-11 ? Would interest me, if you do so...
    Great work anyway.
  • jehu Garcia plus 7 months ago
Thanks Glad to be able to help, Jags work on most video cameras, your SR-11 is a proven model, here's a recent review using this same model: vimeo.com/4911442

Does the peaking function of the HF S10 work with the adapter/lens? I always thought that would be useful for finding focus on the subject quickly and efficiently. The b&w with color fringe.

are you telling me that the link to the 35mm adapter is only 99 dollars. holy crap! Even if it has vignetting it isn't really a big loss. Are you using the adapter you posted a link to above. If so how do you like it, what if any problems have you encountered with it, and how many f stops of light do you lose. Thanks. I am excited about this because most 35mm adapters are about 700-1000 bucks.

Hi Jehu, How difficult is the glueing process with the step up ring? I just bought an HF-s10 and am looking to get a jag adapter. Was hoping to not have to do any hacking (since I have no idea what I'm doing). Do you make an adapter that will work "out of the box" with the HF-s10? Thanks so much in advance, I am really excited to start shooting my own stuff!
  • jehu Garcia plus 53 minutes ago
There's no need to glue the rings anymore, I have 58mm step rings now. All you gotta do is select the 58mm thread option when placing your order, get the one with the 40mm achromat, should work out of box, only other option for inverter LCD is to use an external Monitored mounted upside down, but I'd go for the flip hack instead.
