We love to invest ourselves in the community we live in and we can’t think of a better facilitator to make that happen than being a part of United Way. I think it’s really important to understand what United Way does and it seems like a lot of folks don’t completely grasp what it is the organization does. United Way acts as an umbrella to raise funds for lots of non-profits within the community. “Within the community” is a big deal, because that means that 99% of the money raised in our community, stays in our community. That money is carefully designated to programs that are encompassed under their wide-stretching blanket of influence.
We were fortunate enough to work with this amazing organization, not only for this project, but also on a personal level, as Austin and I (Adam) are both involved in their Emerging Leaders program. It really does feel good to get involved and give back to your community. Change can happen is we all work together and we couldn’t be any more proud to be associated with such a wide-array of excellent causes.
This particular film will be used during their 2012 campaign, meaning that it will be shown to employees of big companies like PPD within our community in the hopes that it can make an impact on the viewers and lead them to become donors (and hopefully volunteers too). The story we focused on centers around a program called Empowering Families To Succeed, a family-based program designed to strengthen the bonds between parents and children living in low-income housing. This is merely the tip of the iceberg as far as what United Way are involved in, but we thought it was a very poignant examples of crucial change within our society. These women’s stories touched us and hopefully they’ll touch you and everyone else that watches the film. If we are all living united, we can make a difference.
