TASTiSKANK - 'Like It Or Not'
We shot TASTiSKANK'S second video last year in and around Manhattan. Sarah Litzsinger wrote a really sweet song about stalking. When she first played it for me she was still working out the guitar but I loved it immediately and knew I wanted to direct the video. Plus, I just like working with Kate and Sarah. They make everything funnier.
I thought Stephen Lynch would be the appropriate person for the girls to stalk during the video since he's basically the master of funny songs. He was hilarious and awesome to work with. We did about twenty takes of him sticking the thermometer in his mouth because he was making us fall down laughing. My childhood friend, Fredo Viola (who has some brilliant videos on vimeo) was my AD (and also let us use his Panasonic HVX 200 to shoot it on), and John Guleserian, my DP, took a break from making things look like public access (he's the DP Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job).
Since the song is about stalking someone they hardly know I wanted to give it the context of one of my favorite movies, The World of Henry Orient. In the movie, two girls stalk a musician played by Peter Sellers. I doubt my homage did the video or the movie and justice but it was a worthwhile experiment and a fun framework to begin with. And George Roy Hill is one of my favorite filmmakers so it was fun to see what he saw. The best moment of shooting came when an older woman came up to us in tears telling me how that movie was her favorite movie ever. It was an amazing compliment.
The furs were my grandmothers and my aunties helped drive, load, and shoot. We couldn't have done this without them or without my producer, Y.S. Thanks.

ross burkhardt 6 months agoWonderful video -- I love the matching of the taxi door slam in rhythm as well as the knee-bounce on the bed -- very tasty. Well done, son.
