As for color correction I mainly; desaturated slightly, lowered the blacks and mids, and added "Levels", giving most of the shots the slightest amount of green/yellow.
As for settings, I used:
H.264
ACC Audio 48.000 kHz
1440 x 1080(to keep the file small)
aspect ratio HDV 1080i (16:9)
Is there a 35mm adaptor on this?
This might be the best hv20 footage i've seen.
No 35mm was used, just a stock HV20.
But yeah -- You should post this on the forums at hv20.com. I think everyone there would dig it. Great job.
You should definitely get an HV20. You can buy all sorts of accessories for it. And if you haven't read about it, you can even make/buy a 35mm adapter for it, kind of costly, but from what I've seen, amazing results.
I used Final Cut Express 3.5
I want to get into these kind of things but.. man.. no time +)
how much footage did you capture, you think? Did you have something in mind and shot these things clip after clip or did you shoot many long shots and then found what you liked and edited?
That's the hardest thing for me.. Because I don't know whether I should shoot bit by bit or just have many long footages and edit it
Neways, great job!!! GOd bless!
Generally each shot was about 10-15 seconds long, with an exception of a few. I didn't know what song I was going to use at first, but I found this one and the footage fit perfectly. So I decided to shoot some more footage to fill in the gaps.
If you don't mind, how did you capture the video into the mac ? (I'm assuming it's different from pc but I do it with hvsplit, virtualdub, etc.) How long did it take you to render??? Mine seem to take AGES!! maybe the codec I'm trying to encode in?.... My videos lag and are huge when I do it in any of the lossless format... hmmm
It took I think maybe 20-30 minutes total. I was surprised HD footage didn't take longer than that.
My video is always huge too when I try to play it in Quicktime, but I just full-screen it or half-size it usually to watch.
And usually I encode as .mov with standard HDV1080i codec.
I still can't get a good image out. It's a tedious process with the PC. Maybe I'm just stupid... lol
Anyways, cheers!!!! thanks alot for the info! Also, for a very inspirational upload
overall how complicated is it to manage when first get it? im planning to spend a week non stop just tweaking the thing...
when u import it into you PC, what do u mean when u encode it, or downsize from 1080 to 720?
For Vimeo, I think I kept this video at 1080, but there still was some quality loss with the final upload. By encoding it I just export it from my video editing software, saving it as a more compatible and smaller file size to upload to the web. So sites like Youtube, it won't really matter if you "lessen" the quality to 720 from 1080 beacuse YouTube formats it as a flash file anyways, so it would never look as good as it doesn't on your computer.

I also added a letterbox to it with a pre-set setting
of "Panavision 2.35:1".
and another question: i was just testing my editor and how do u change the format of the video so it could be uploaded to certain sites that need a certain format? u use final cut right?
GREAT JOB CONGRATULATIONS!
NOW, i want a Hv20!
How do you get the shallow DOF, I am trying hard on my HF10.
zooming in on the subject and/or getting really close to the subject does the job for me.
it makes the footage look far more professional without changes in brightness when you zoom and angle it differently.
