See all Show me
I guess I would consider this my first real deliberate vidblog. Usually I make pieces about an event or little vignettes of life in a chronological order. But this is random and scattered, and I think its more authentic to one's actual experience and memory of events.

All video taken with my little canon handheld digital camera between January 1, 2007 and December 31, 2007.

Its long, but so is a year.

Good vidblog. I like the repetitive aspects -- it's a lot like you say about memory. Some things stick with you.

  • Cameron Christopher 2 years ago

OK, so I definitely not one for long videos with my short attention span, but this was one that kept me captivated from the moment it began right to the last second. Definitely a top 10 video for me. I especially liked the groupings-applause, fauxtos, etc...

I would like to think that if I took all the past videos I've done (many never posted) I could somehow make something as cool as this... I'm not sure it'd ever come close as this was so incredibly well done.

So good, Blake. Congratulations on documenting such a cool year in your life.

    Eric
  • Blake Whitman staff 2 years ago
You can, and you will. Watching so many videos here on Vimeo I am very inspired by all the incredibly talented people. I freely copy style and editing technique and ideas that appeal to me. So if you get some time, I would suggest you try one!

Blake, an excellent montage. I love when there are things that you had no connection to whatsoever can still evoke a hardcore sense of nostalgia.

I thoroughly enjoyed and best of luck in 08.

    Thanks for sharing man.
  • Blake Whitman staff 2 years ago
thats cool JD, i sometimes wish I could live in nostalgia, if it were a place.

best of luck to you too, although I doubt you need it.

Blake, Gotta say that is your best yet. The audio was great, clips were the perfect length, love the stop motion sections, it was all very very good. Vimeo is such a more personal site than any other. I really feel like I get to know people here. It's borderline creepy.

It was good to hang out with you for seven minutes and catch up on what you've done for the last year.
    Thanks for sharing!
  • Blake Whitman staff 2 years ago
It is kinda creepy, but in a good way.

Blake, your life is full of friends, creativity, music and nature. As I watched, I kept saying oh, that was cool (ie shot of stadium filling up) or boy that looks like fun (water, boats, friends hanging out). Thanks for sharing. Very nicely done.
  • Blake Whitman staff 2 years ago
    thanks for watching!

Truly inspiring... no mega effects, multi-thousand dollar cameras, crews, or big musical score. Really proves how personal video can transcend the lines of expectations and tell a story perfectly through the eyes (and mind) of an individual.

Gah, what am I talking about.. I'm just jealous I couldn't think of doing something like this in the first place ;-) Good work!

    P.S. Lake George?
  • Blake Whitman staff 2 years ago
Thanks James, I try to keep everything fairly simple most of the time... I guess thats just my style.

    And yeah, Lake George!
