On 15 July, after 13 days of difficult climbing on the 13-kilometer Mazeno Ridge, Sandy Allan and Rick Allen stood on the summit of the world’s 9th highest mountain, Nanga Parbat. Two days earlier, faced with dwindling food supplies, their four other climbing partners made the decision to bail out down an unknown face. Soon after, Sandy and Rick ran out of food and water and were faced with a critical descent down the mountain’s notoriously difficult Diamir Face. Expedition leader Sandy Allan tells the gripping story.
