33 animation students from 8 schools (USA and Canada) worked with NYU professor/theatre director Orlando Pabotoy to develop characters by performing with masks. New to acting, these animators learned acting techniques that helped them understand decisions their characters would make. Once they performed their character they recorded their scenes. Then they worked alongside DreamWorks animators Jason Spencer Gallsworthy and David Burgess to translate these performances into animation scenes. They were critiqued every step along the way and produced 15-30 seconds of animation. Here you will see their acting performances along with their animation scenes in progress. This workshop was conceived by CSULB professor Aubry Mintz and Orlando Pabotoy and coordinated by Aubry Mintz. It was held at CSU Monterrey Bay and funded by CSU Summer Arts with sponsor ship from DreamWorks, Toon Boom and Wacom. Enjoy!
