Speaker: Shezad Dawood, Artist-in-Residence
When: July 19, 2012
Where: Department of Art and Art History Auditorium, University of Hawai'i at Manoa
Shezad Dawood’s talk will touch upon the relationship of his work with Islamic art, notably his incorporation of the Kaaba in his ongoing series of 'tumbleweed' sculptures. Dawood will delve into a crucial concept in his practice: that nothing exists in isolation and that Eastern religion and spiritualism inspired Western Modernism. The talk will include clips from his recent film 'New Dream Machine Project' (2011) and installation shots of his currently touring exhibition Piercing Brightness.
