Established in 1996 and based in Birmingham, West Midlands, ACE dance and music was established as an agent for cultural exchange which made a specific and unique contribution to contemporary dance locally, regionally and nationally.
During the next three years and beyond the Company is committed to engaging with existing stakeholders and markets by continuing to promote a world-view of diversity within contemporary dance.
ACE dance and music is committed to engaging with a world-view of African Peoples Dance. The Company is open to the experiences and influences offered by its peers who work in other idioms, particularly those from Africa and the Diaspora, to forge a contemporary black dance aesthetic for today.
The Company has developed an excellent reputation and wide client base for the delivery of education and outreach projects. In addition the professional touring projects have been welcomed and well received by promoters, venue managers, funders and audiences.ACE Dance and music’s Artistic Director Gail Parmel, who after being nominated as one of the Cultural Leadership programme’s 50 Women to Watch in 2010/11, has now been voted one of 20 Inspirational Women from the African Diaspora in Europe (ADIPWE): in celebration of the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day.
