A timelapse lawnmowing video. I shot it with a Canon 5D MkII in Live Mode using fine-medium JPEGs. The lens is a Nikon 24mm f/2.8 AF set at f/22 and with a 0.9 ND filter attached. ISO was 100. I used a timer (Aputure AP-TR3C) with a 1 second shutter, followed by a 1 second delay.

Last year, it was Hamilton in the McLaren and Massa in the Ferrari. This year, it's Button in the Brawn. Next year, it will be me and my lawnmower!

I wonder if the FIA considers the blades to be movable aerodynamic devices? ;)

Just a point, I have a motorized telescope head for time lapse, same model Philip Bloom used in Japan with EX1, so easy work for 5DMK2. Not expensive. If you fancy info I'll look it out, & post.

That info would be great. Camera movement during timelapse is sweet.

Tom @ Timescapes shows what can be done with a dolly and a stepper motor...

A great stop motion method.. I just ordered the Aputure AP-TR3C for myself!

It's a nice bargain, compared to the Canon model.

When shooting in daylight, make sure to get some ND filters as well. The ND 0.9 (three stops) was just barely adequate. I would have added a polarizer as well, but it caused vignetting.

I just added an outtake: vimeo.com/4760331

On the far back lawn, I forgot to stop down the aperture, so the result is terribly overexposed. However, that magically lets us see the wind due to the moisture and dust in the air. It's terrible video, but interesting science!

As you can see on my "good" lawnmower video, the air movement isn't visible at all to the naked eye.

Exactly right! If it was good enough for Roger Rabbit, it's good enough for my lawnmower video. :)

Now, can you name this music? vimeo.com/4760331

The timer you used says it can only shoot up to 99 frames. How did you make such a long video? Maybe I am confused as to how this works... Really want to get going with time lapse on my 5D. Any suggestions or advice??

As I recall, if you don't set the number of frames, it just keeps shooting.

That's very cool. It made me laugh.
I learnt something about my 5D2 also.
    Thanks.
