91. david + grace's same day edit // cape may NJ
6 months ago
Due to crazy traffic + a monkey route detour (badddd GPS) we ended up arriving at the wedding location and meeting the couple at midnight before the day of the wedding.

However, immediately after meeting with Dave + Grace we checked out all the wedding locations, and quickly story-boarded everything based on the TIGHT-schedule.

Production Tidbits (keep in mind we had to pack light since it was a destination wedding)

- 5d Mark II was the main imaging workhorse (this camera is unbelievable)
- Cinevate Pegasus slider
- Steadicam Flyer
-everything was shot or converted to 24P

One thing that I'd like to mention is the short time frame we had in putting this together. ~8 hours, which is much less than we normally have. The wedding rehearsal itself occurred the morning of the wedding day which I felt made a fitting intro to start this piece.

EDIT:

For those very serious about education + training re production; please check out stillmotionexperience.com.

very nice! I like the rich colors! 5D Mk II responsible for them? :)

do you guys really do storyboarding as in drawing?
  • stillmotion plus 6 months ago
we do do storyboarding - not all the time but when the time is right. sometimes that means drawings, sometimes its words.

this clip is heavily MKII but everything is graded so that is more of the look than anything else, in terms of color.

what makes it such a great video is your abilities to draw such scenes so powerfully and beautifully and yet you guys never fail not once to amaze me every time. Great works!
  • stillmotion plus 6 months ago
thanks kuswendy - we've hard at getting in the habit of really thinking through things before a single frame is recorded and it creates the ability, over time, to have pieces that are not only artistically strong but also tie into the deeper story.

Fantastic! What is your workstation configuration? PC or Mac? Quad core? Thanks for sharing!
  • stillmotion plus 6 months ago
this was a macbook pro and FCP. we travel for many of our SDEs, and we wouldn't be able to get a workstation with us on the plane - and i think it would slow us down more than it would help.

    Excellent work!
Are you using a steadicam for some of those shots?
  • Drew Renner 6 months ago
Yes they use steadi-cam...They are the dojo's of steadi-cam. Also in their description they noted the use of steadi-cam.
  • stillmotion plus 6 months ago
thanks drew. first time i think we have been called 'dojo's'. many of the shots were done with the steadicam flyer. we are working with tiffen to bring an exclusive friends of stillmotion offering to those who are interested in getting a steadicam.

beautiful beautiful work guys. super inspiring!

my brother and I are also big fans of the MKII....a steadicam would be so liberating!! How's that deal working out?:)

check out our trailer here on vimeo too if you get a chance!

    Thanks and again, amazing stuff!

    MYW,

Can I ask how you convert to 24p on the fly like that? You guys are such an inspiration.

    Thanks, Matt

I wanna know the same thing...
  • stillmotion plus 6 months ago
we are using compressor. i have worked with the presets many times and have many different variations but there are two basic methods. map the 30 frames in 30P to 24P - so your not changing the frames, essentially just slowing it down. the other is to change 30P into 24P but forcing it to stay at 100% - that can cause large render times if you go to high quality OR some artifacts if you go with quick route. i will try and do a little tutorial to share.

are professionals, it's amazing the 5D Mark II camera that makes video work exquisite, I am fascinated by the photography of you, and the pleasant appearance of the wedding dress with Pegasus slider cinevate, two questions: How many cameras use to download husbands to the garden by the stairs? and lighting used when filming I like to perform in makeup behind the scenes to assess the details of their wedding, thanks for your videos, you are true Sensei
  • stillmotion plus 6 months ago
    Hi Sergio,

There were to cameras and 2 operators to film the entire processional itself.

The bride and groom preps were shot entire with available/natural lighting. No additional lights were used by us for any shots that are in the SDE.

This is excellent! Wow I love the shallow depth of field with the MkII just stunning, and the Steadicam Flyer, worked out splendid, spectacular smooth footage. How did you go about converting it to 24p.
