When working in the same space children still seem to have a need to form a boundary. With an open space that boundary is not there by default and so children in this group have added it in.

It seems a simple gesture but it got my attention as it is something I have not seen yet, but have been thinking about since we used the Philips Entertaible. bit.ly/147tjV

I think there is potential in children defining the shape of their learning space on the surface. Drawing a boundary that just defines a simple shape, a learning placemat! This is not to say that objects or parts of the activity are blocked by this boundary, more that it shows ownership or helps to flag where interaction have come from.
