Festival organiser BT met visual projection artist Thomas Russell at Cherry Bar, ACDC lane, Melbourne, in early 2011 after seeing him preform his live 'in camera' visuals for some local psychedelic bands. BT said something like " what your doing is exactly the vibe of our festival, we would love to have you come and do this for some bands". Thomas said, "Great! Sounds like a festival I would love", and the rest is history.
Thomas creates live visuals, with no pre made content. That is to say all of the visuals are created on the spot using cameras. With 'in camera effects' to generate the illusions, he utilises drawings, liquids and objayda to create abstract imagery that matches the atmosphere and themes of the music. Inspired by the magic of early film making that depended on imagination and creativity for lack of post production special effects. As well as crafty modern film makers like, Michel Gondry.
