The Stolen Child by W.B. Yeats

Where dips the rocky highland
Of Sleuth Wood in the lake,
There lies a leafy island
Where flapping herons wake
The drowsy water rats;
There we've hid our faery vats,
Full of berrys
And of reddest stolen cherries.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.

Where the wave of moonlight glosses
The dim gray sands with light,
Far off by furthest Rosses
We foot it all the night,
Weaving olden dances
Mingling hands and mingling glances
Till the moon has taken flight;
To and fro we leap
And chase the frothy bubbles,
While the world is full of troubles
And anxious in its sleep.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.

Where the wandering water gushes
From the hills above Glen-Car,
In pools among the rushes
That scarce could bathe a star,
We seek for slumbering trout
And whispering in their ears
Give them unquiet dreams;
Leaning softly out
From ferns that drop their tears
Over the young streams.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.

Away with us he's going,
The solemn-eyed:
He'll hear no more the lowing
Of the calves on the warm hillside
Or the kettle on the hob
Sing peace into his breast,
Or see the brown mice bob
Round and round the oatmeal chest.
For he comes, the human child,
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than he can understand.

This machinima animation was created and filmed within the virtual world of Second Life.

Hi! I've had requests from people to visit the Sim where this movie was filmed, unfortunately it does not exist in virtual space - the sets were only set up to create this poem, then they were torn down again. Thanks.

Truly beautiful work, once again, and in a much needed genre. Great narration, and the set design is stupendously good.

Only one thing broke the spell for me, and that was the blocky shadow on the seated character at the end. Aside from that, utterly gorgeous all around.

Trace, that is very beautiful. I'm in love with the sets, they looks so natural and realistic.

It turned out so beautifully :)

Whatever engine you use, you always manage to make it look like professional 3D. Your imagery in this was gorgeous and the mystical atmosphere was just perfect.

I admit the first time watching I was paying too much attention to the voice over :P
I'm really happy I got to do narration for this. It's an honor.

Wonderful work, particularly enjoyed the build in your edit and the overlapping narration. Deft stuff, loved the owl shot.

Yet another video leaving me breathless. Beautiful imagery, just magical. Treasa's voice is so perfect for this piece and I adore the way you blended the voices in parts. I just can't stop watching!

I disagree - I think the dark foreboding is its own character in this piece. Very nice work!

Arguably the best SL machinima set till now! :O Would love to check it out if its open for public viewing. Is it still up? Also loved the recitation. Great voice, Anna! :)

Unfortunately not, I had to keep taking them down to build the next section, some were 2,000 prim sets.

Anna/Anya/Treasa has a great acting voice too!

This is amazing, Lainy. Beautifull and dark, just like your fairies. The movie "stays" with you even after it stops.
If I didn't know you work in SL, I would have never guessed you used this engine to film this piece; the sets are wonderfull.
(The shot with the water lillies is my favorite)

I think the foreboding is not overdone, and that's good.

I'd love to see my father's favorite poem: The Lake Isle of Innisfree

    thanks, that was the best

Though it's far from being my favourite Yeats that was simply superb. If you ever want to have a try at his Second Coming I'd love to see it!
