DSMP Students' Music and Technology Class at St. James

DSMP Students' Music and Technology Class at St. James

ETM-Bay Area

Students in St. James’ Music Technology and Songwriting class in San Francisco were given sample vocal tracks from “City Lights” by the R&B singer Lexyss. The samples contained components of an entire song including the introduction, chorus, bridge, and a few verses. The students were responsible for rearranging, augmenting, and remixing these samples to create a song. The students were also required to create and include an additional “Latin section” for the piece because it was a theme for their first semester music classes. The students completed the assignment as they felt was appropriate and were required to explain their work. The students were assessed on track arrangement, key and tempo identifications, as well as the inclusion of the “Latin section.”

St. James' music program is provided by the Dominican Sisters Music Project. You can find out more information at dsmpsf.org
