TM300 Low Light Night Test
My 1st footage on TM300 after the battery was fully charged. Taken about 11pm at the carpark with only street lights, from my apartment, using different low light modes.
iA = using intelligent Auto mode
Auto = Normal Auto without iA
Night View = Auto with Night View function set.
Cinema = Digital Cinema 25p
Auto Slow Shutter mode
Low light sensitivity is quite good in spite of the fact that the carpark was only lighted with dimly street lights. There is some noise but details are there. I like the fact that the camera has lots of manual functions and also iA for those who wants it easy.
Some update (10 June, 2009) - I like using Auto better than iA.
iA - tends to push the gain up. The view is brighter but a bit more noise.
Auto - The view is a bit dimmer as it adjust on Auto White Balance instead of using Auto Scene Selection. But less noise.
If I am not so concern about noise but want more details, then iA comes into good use.

I did another carpark Lowlight test: vimeo.com/5219042
Other lowlight videos:
vimeo.com/5111671 -> Evening shots of shopping mall n street
vimeo.com/5269723 -> Shot on the rooftop with minimal light
All my HD videos are with TM300. So you can see a lot of indoor clips - most are shot on Auto and do not have White Balance Adjustments.
I have not used Hfs10 before so I can't comment on it. It is a great camera and I would probably not regret it if I owned it. Most features are the same on both cameras.
My decision to buy tm300 instead is based on what I read in Camcorderinfo, forums, and viewing of videos on Vimeo n Youtube. Deciding factors are based on my usage - I am mainly a family type of consumer, so most of my videos are for homes, friends, and families. But I would also like to have some good manual features to play around as my hobby.
1. OIS - tm300 is better - I do not bring my tripod most of the time unless it is a planned shoot so OIS is important.
2.Viewfinder - Canon does not have. This helps with stability and saving battery power when needed. Using LCD screen uses more battery so less time video time. When I do not have a tripod, sometimes I use the viewfinder as a balance on face.
3. Timelapse - I like this fun feature that Hfs10 do not have. So I do not need to buy an expensive DSLR as well to have this feature.
4. Big Manual Ring vs. small manual dial on hfs10 - Less turns for manual focus and adjustments. More turns can cause shakes to the camera when videoing.
5. Horse shoe - can use any brand for accessories, while canon must use its own.
6. 5.1 Sound vs 2 Channel on Canon - altho this is a minor factor for me.
7. Price - In Singapore, tm300 ws S$700 cheaper.
What I liked about Hfs10
1. 24mbs - tm300 is only 17mbs. On theory, video quality on Canon should be better. But when I view the videos at Vimeo or Youtube, I don't see much different. So maybe Canon is 4% better. For my usage, it is too little of a different to affect my choice.
2. Fast AF - Canon has an additional external auto focus that you can use if you wanted to makes focusing immediate. Again, for me, it is a small advantage as every other camcorders auto focus is good and fast enough.
So I chose tm300 over hfs10. I have no regrets after using it for the last 3 months as you can see I have shot many videos with it.
