Back in 2006, my wife, Kate and I heard about Dr. Clifford Hill's vision to bring a replica of a slave ship up the river Thames in London as part of the commemoration of the 200th Anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade in Great Britain. We volunteered to help publicise this vision by making a short video explaining the background to it and how it might be accomplished. This was the result. Later in 2007, we made a video record of the fulfilment of this vision. You can view this elsewhere on this channel - 'The Zong Slave Ship - Free at Last.
The 'Amazing Grace' image is taken from the 2006 film of the same name. It is a biographical drama about William Wilberforce and the campaign that he and others fought against the slave trade in the British Empire. It starred Ioan Gruffudd as Wilberforce under the direction of Michael Apted. The photograph depicts Wilberforce presenting his Petition to the British Parliament.
