How did you have the picture profile setup on this commercial. Did you use available light or did you a have a lighting setup for this. I don't have any experience or video background but I did a lot of research over the last few years about sub 10k cams and ended up buying an ex1. I would appreciate any help that I could get. I would love to know how you guys set up this video. Thanks!!

We used a number of HMI and Kino Flo units on this shoot. I'm not sure exactly how we had the picture profile set. The best thing to do is get a color chart and a good monitor and play with all the setting and dial in what you like.

Did you use the stock lens?
  • Six29 Entertainment plus 6 months ago
Yes, this was shot with the stock lens on the EX3

Thank you for all of your responses! I know that you said you guys now like to set the detail down a little lower. Are you going with detail off or like a -15? When this was shot were you zoomed in for most of it to catch the sharpest parts of the lens? I noticed that even when you zoomed out it still looked very nice!! Could you tell me what gamma settings were used? I have been using CINE 3 but I would like to know what you think about that? Thanks again and I appreciate all of your input! You guys do awesome work!!!

I am really impressed by this footage of EX3. I think it clearly beats much of RED One footage I've seen on Vimeo. Would you too agree with me on that? (btw would have liked to see the "some things are better texted" super on black instead of over footage.. kind of gets lost this way don't you think :-)

Time and again I see the RED One footage and the EX footage side by side, and time and again, I like the lattitude and detail on the EX MUCH better. If I did not know anything about which cameras produced which images, I would choose the EX1 all the time.
This video was encoded exceptionally well. Either that or Vimeo has improved it's Flash converter by a huge leap. This is one of the cleanest encodes I've ever seen on the net!

huh? Well, technically the RED has at least 3 stops more than EX3, due to it's large chip. So I don't know what RED-footage you have seen, and personally, not being a RED-fanatic by any strech of the imagination, RED looks great when printed on film, and EX looks like shit.

It's all about light, you should know that:-))

This has to be the best footage shot bare on a EX on Vimeo. The lighting is exceptional and the quality is astounding.

According to Allistair Chapman and to the folks at provideocoalition.com, the Red and the EX are about the same in terms of lattitude. Logically, one would THINK the RED should have more, being raw format and larger sensor, but we also have to remember that it is a single sensor, like consumer camcorders, with a Bayer filter, so the gains are divided by three.

Well, what do you know? There's got to be more leeway with RED

On what do you base that assertion?
Since I don't have both cameras to verify the test results of Provideocoalition.com, I can't confirm, but according to their tests, both cameras have about the same lattitude.

Well, on the chip. I'm not technically versed in the aspects of DR and so forth, but as I understand it, the bigger the chip, the better the render of shadows and so forth.

The larger chip has larger receptor sites, so it can gather more light. However, in the case of single-chip cameras, light is lost through the Bayer filter. Color resolution is also lost. I would take 3 1/2" chips over 1 1" chip for this reason.
